Cosmetic problems caused by tooth loss
With the top premolar teeth missing, the premolars have no 'opposing force' and continue to erupt up.
With no posterior contact, all the force is placed on the front teeth, which in turn are overloaded and forced to move forward and outward.Progression of Cosmetic problems caused by tooth loss
Loss of posterior support causes over eruption of back teeth into empty spaces. During biting and articulation, there are traumatic forces acting on the front teeth. This can cause spreading of the front teeth. This overeruption and splaying of the anterior teeth can reach severe levels and cause periodontal (gum) problems. Eventually, the lack of posterior support and overloading of the anterior teeth can result in tooth loss.
